Das Buch ist eine praxisorientierte Einführung in die Steuerungstechnik. Die Grundlagen werden aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und anhand unterschiedlicher Anwendungen erläutert. Angefangen von einfachen elektronischen Steuerungen bis hin zu Steuerungen von Werkzeugmaschinen und Robotern wird in typische Techniken und Systeme, wie z.B. Mikrocontroller, klassische SPS-Systeme oder PC-basierte Systeme, eingeführt. Aufbau und Funktion einzelner Steuerungen werden aufgezeigt sowie exemplarisch Methoden zur Modellierung von Steuerungen dargestellt. Im letzten Teil des Buches wird auf Anwendungen der Künstlichen Intelligenz in der Steuerungstechnik eingegangen. Wesentlich für das Verständnis von Steuerungen ist es, die Methoden der Beschreibung und die Begrifflichkeit, also die Sprache der Steuerungstechnik zu verstehen. Jedes Kapitel enthält deshalb Übungsaufgaben mit ausführlichem Lösungsweg. Das Buch richtet sich an Studierende technischer Studiengänge ebenso wie an Anwender in der industriellen Praxis.
